The watchword here at Toadlands is most definitely that there is no need to compromise when you go glamping.

Our owners, Jane & her husband had a very clear vision about what they wanted to offer their guests and originally wanted a full-build solution from Blackdown, but the timescales didn’t work for them, so they opted for a self-build.
With a background of bourse renovation and a keen eye for design, Jane’s husband convinced her that they could build their dream hut themselves.
Jane said that they loved the journey with the whole family getting involved along the way, as well as friends and the resulting stay place is simply stunning,
Decked out with sumptuous interiors, Toadlands really does offer a unique stay option, with the gorgeousness of the surrounding area only adding to the attraction. When staying at Toadlands, you can expect to find a spacious king sized bed alongside heating and even hot chocolate to create the most cosy and idyllic evenings you can imagine. Not only can you find anything you may need whilst in the shepherd’s hut, Toadlands is not far from towns such as Romaldkirk or Middleton- in-Teesdale, and just a short car journey to Bernard Castle – time to start preparing that activity to do list!

Jane & her husband have a landscape contracting business and do houses up. They live in a small village with 2 daughters and 2 horses. Toadlands has been a labour of love and delivered a real sense of achievement – so lovely to do something a bit different. Want them to feel refreshed and energised and to showcase Teesdale, Heart of the Durham Dales which has so much to offer but is often overlooked.

An absolutely fantastic place to stay! Very happy.

Firstly, the hosts Roger and Sue are extremely warm and kind people, who couldn't do enough to help you enjoy your stay. The Shepherds hut itself is a good size, very tidy and self-contained. There is a lovely wood burner to warm your cockles. Running along the side of the hut is a bubbling stream, something which we found to be very relaxing. The hut is also surrounded by grand trees and even has its own fenced in area where you may have a barbecue, weather permitting of course. Furthermore, there is a secure driveway area where you may park your car. Because of the huts location, it is rare to hear traffic and night times are lovely and quiet.

In terms of things to do locally, there are some lovely waterfalls nearby, loads of walks, the Clywedog reservoir and Llanidloes. It’s also an option to go visit places like Aberystwyth which is an hour’s drive. Moreover, there were lots of other options provided in the welcome pack.

From my research of places to stay in the area, I personally couldn't find anywhere better when considering price, location, facilities and quality. From my experience, I wouldn't recommend anywhere else.

We will be returning and may even buy a dog to take advantage of all the amenities.

Everything about Ravens Retreat, and Sue, Roger and Raven is just fabulous. It's such a peaceful and magical place to stay. We (hubby and 3 dogs) stayed for 7 nights in November, we were comfy, warm, content and very sad to leave. We've already booked for next year and can't wait to return. Sue and Roger are always there in case of any problems, but also respect your privacy. 10 out of 10 as perfect hosts xx

I had a perfect weekend away with my two favourite boys (hubby and the dog!!). The hut was beautifully quaint and comfortable and a truly idyllic hideaway for a few days away. Our dog, Murphy, adored his stay and spent many long hours getting wet and muddy before snoring in front of the fire. Thank you so, so much for making us all so very welcome.
