Raven’s Retreat Shepherd’s Hut is in a beautiful, peaceful valley, ideal for dogs, with woodland walks alongside the Hut, an enclosed garden with barbecue and chiminea, and paddock. There’s a meandering stream running past the Hut which creates a burbling backdrop to breakfast or evening drinks on the veranda. The accommodation provides a pull-out king sized bed, kitchen area with microwave/grill, toaster etc and is kept warm by a log burning stove. The bathroom is attached and has a compost toilet and small bath/shower.  It is in the Cambrian Mountains Dark Sky Heritage site and surrounded by the stunning countryside of Mid Wales.

Having retired six years ago, and having a hyperactive pup which prevented them from going on holiday, Roger and Sue decided to share the incredibly beautiful area they’ve been so lucky to have lived in for thirty years, with others – the emphasis on accommodating dogs. They chose a Blackdown Shepherds  Hut kit (to keep Roger busy!) and have welcomed so many wonderful guests to Raven’s Retreat over the last five years (Raven being the dog!), many of them becoming good friends.

An absolutely fantastic place to stay! Very happy.

Firstly, the hosts Roger and Sue are extremely warm and kind people, who couldn't do enough to help you enjoy your stay. The Shepherds hut itself is a good size, very tidy and self-contained. There is a lovely wood burner to warm your cockles. Running along the side of the hut is a bubbling stream, something which we found to be very relaxing. The hut is also surrounded by grand trees and even has its own fenced in area where you may have a barbecue, weather permitting of course. Furthermore, there is a secure driveway area where you may park your car. Because of the huts location, it is rare to hear traffic and night times are lovely and quiet.

In terms of things to do locally, there are some lovely waterfalls nearby, loads of walks, the Clywedog reservoir and Llanidloes. It’s also an option to go visit places like Aberystwyth which is an hour’s drive. Moreover, there were lots of other options provided in the welcome pack.

From my research of places to stay in the area, I personally couldn't find anywhere better when considering price, location, facilities and quality. From my experience, I wouldn't recommend anywhere else.

We will be returning and may even buy a dog to take advantage of all the amenities.

Everything about Ravens Retreat, and Sue, Roger and Raven is just fabulous. It's such a peaceful and magical place to stay. We (hubby and 3 dogs) stayed for 7 nights in November, we were comfy, warm, content and very sad to leave. We've already booked for next year and can't wait to return. Sue and Roger are always there in case of any problems, but also respect your privacy. 10 out of 10 as perfect hosts xx

I had a perfect weekend away with my two favourite boys (hubby and the dog!!). The hut was beautifully quaint and comfortable and a truly idyllic hideaway for a few days away. Our dog, Murphy, adored his stay and spent many long hours getting wet and muddy before snoring in front of the fire. Thank you so, so much for making us all so very welcome.
